Sophie and Charlie

Sophie and Charlie’s wedding weekend at Montage Palmetto Bluff was a study in contrast—where Southern ease met the layered, textural influence of New York City’s West Village.

From the beginning, our work together focused on translating their story into an experience that felt both elevated and deeply personal, with every detail designed to feel intentional rather than expected.

Their celebration began long before guests arrived in South Carolina. Inspired by a romantic proposal at Château Barbeyrolles, Sophie and Charlie envisioned a wedding weekend that balanced European influence with the natural beauty of the South. Through our design process, we refined that vision into a cohesive aesthetic, anchored by rich, dark green tones, layered textiles, and organic movement inspired by the Spanish moss that defines the landscape of Palmetto Bluff.

From a planning perspective, the focus was on how the weekend would feel for both the couple and their guests. We guided the flow of events to ensure each transition felt seamless, allowing space for connection while building energy as the celebration unfolded.

The welcome party set the tone with a fall-inspired Lowcountry oyster roast and boil, an immersive introduction to place. Guests gathered beneath live oaks as a bluegrass band played, surrounded by thoughtful details that felt elevated yet relaxed. Sculptural floral arrangements in seasonal hues added depth and texture, while layered linens in deep green velvet introduced the design language that would carry throughout the weekend.

On the wedding day, personalization took center stage in a way that felt quietly impactful. Handwritten notes replaced traditional escort cards, creating a moment of pause and connection as each guest found their seat. Family traditions were honored through heirloom jewelry and a unity candle ceremony, grounding the celebration in something deeper than aesthetics alone.

The reception design was where the full vision came to life. Inside the tent, we created a space that felt immersive and transportive, layering textures, custom elements, and intentional lighting to shift the atmosphere as the evening progressed. A custom bistro bar with “Feldner” tile inlay—referencing the couple’s favorite cocktail bar, Dante —anchored the space while adding a subtle but meaningful nod to their life together.

Florals played a central role in shaping the environment, with arrangements designed to echo the movement of Spanish moss; organic, textural, and slightly untamed. The bride’s cascading white orchids offered a refined counterpoint, bringing softness and elegance to the overall composition.

As the evening transitioned, so did the energy. The after-party transformed the space into “Feldner Haus”; a lounge-inspired, Euro-house nightclub layered in red light and sound, designed as a complete shift from the earlier tone of the evening. This transformation is something we guide our clients through intentionally creating multiple experiences within a single celebration, so the night continues to unfold rather than simply conclude.

Throughout the weekend, every decision was rooted in a singular goal: to create a celebration that felt as meaningful as it was beautiful. By balancing thoughtful design with a well-considered guest experience, Sophie and Charlie were able to remain fully present moving through each moment with ease, while their guests felt equally immersed in the story being told.

Their wedding reflects what happens when design is used not just to decorate a space, but to shape how it’s experienced—layered, personal, and entirely their own.
