Lauren and James

Lauren and James’s story began in 2019 with a Hinge match that led to a front porch date; charcuterie, a bottle of Miraval rosé, and the kind of easy conversation that quickly turned into something more.
What followed were years of weekly date nights spent exploring new restaurants, a ritual that became central not only to their relationship, but to how they envisioned their wedding celebration.
When we began planning their wedding weekend at Montage Palmetto Bluff, the goal was clear: to create an experience that felt as inviting, layered, and memorable as their favorite dining spaces. Together, we translated that into a reception design rooted in atmosphere, where every guest would feel like they had stepped into a beautifully curated restaurant, designed just for them.
Rather than a traditional tented reception, we approached the space through the lens of hospitality and flow. A statement bar anchored the room, immediately drawing guests in, while a mix of table sizes, banquette-style seating, and lounge moments encouraged movement and conversation throughout the evening. Details were intentionally tactile and refined—menu cards designed to mimic a bespoke cocktail menu, complete with leather wraps and hand-foiled names—adding a sense of discovery to each place setting.
The weekend began with a welcome party that embraced a more playful, social energy. Set within Palmetto Bluff, guests were greeted with a food truck-style gathering featuring Southern favorites—hot honey fried chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and classic Lowcountry bites. In place of traditional welcome bags, we guided Lauren and James toward a more interactive approach: a curated display of their favorite local goods, allowing guests to build their own bags while mingling and exploring. It became a natural conversation point and set the tone for a weekend centered around shared experiences.
On the wedding day, the tone softened into something more romantic and refined. Lauren and James exchanged vows at Somerset Chapel, surrounded by a spring-forward palette of soft florals that brought a sense of lightness and elegance to the space. Personal readings on friendship and an Irish blessing framed their ceremony, grounding it in meaning while keeping the focus on their connection.
From there, the energy shifted. Led by a lively first line from Manhattan Orchestra from Jordan Kahn Music Company, guests were welcomed into the reception; marking the transition from ceremony to celebration in a way that felt dynamic and unexpected. As planners, these are the moments we intentionally design: where movement, music, and flow come together to create a sense of anticipation and immersion.
As the night progressed, the celebration took on a life of its own. The dance floor remained full, late-night bites and Italian desserts circulated, and espresso martinis became a fixture in hand. Rather than signaling an end, each moment built on the last, culminating in a private last dance for Lauren and James before a joyful sparkler send-off.
The weekend closed with a farewell brunch that offered one final nod to their story—a New England-inspired bagel bar that brought guests together one last time before departure.
Lauren and James’s wedding is a reflection of what happens when you design with experience at the forefront. By grounding the celebration in something personal—in this case, their shared love of restaurants—we were able to create a wedding that felt both elevated and effortlessly welcoming. A space where guests didn’t just attend, but settled in, connected, and stayed awhile; exactly as it was intended.
